Sveaskog and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) have arranged a seminar on 22 March on the theme of "Skogens År; Naturvård på nya sätt" (Year of the Forest; new methods of conservation).
Contributions will be made by the Sveaskog President and CEO, Gunnar Olofsson, the WWF General secretary, Håkan Wirtén, the Environment Minister, Andreas Carlgren and Professor Per Angelstam.
The purpose of the seminar is to spread knowledge about and discuss new initiatives in nature conservation and water conservation. The programme also includes talks and discussion on the Swedish forestry model and the requirements of maintaining biological diversity.
The Sveaskog Senior Vice President Environment and Sustainable Development, Olof Johansson; Vice President Nature Conservation Strategy, Stefan Bleckert and Landscape Ecologist Peter Bergman will hold talks on the subject of eco-parks, nature conservation and strategies for water/wetlands in forest landscapes. The focus is placed on the quality of nature conservation.
The seminar is based on the long term cooperation between Sveaskog and WWF.
"We have had stimulating cooperation over the past 12 years and we intend to continue with this. Some joint projects with the Baltic States such as Levande Skogsvatten (Living forest water) and Ansvarsfull virkeshandel (Responsible timber trading) will be extended although in a revised form, and new projects will be started," says Olof Johansson.
