Spring has finally arrived in Mörrum. This means that fishing enthusiasts and interested onlookers alike can prepare themselves for this year's fishing premier, which is the 70th in line.
This winter has been hard and long in southern Sweden, which has caused doubt as to whether the fishing season could be opened on 26 March as planned. However, a change in the weather has meant that the ice is now melting rapidly, and yesterday the decision was made to hold the fishing premier on the date planned for.
"I'm extremely pleased as well as relieved. There has been a huge demand for the 200 premier fishing places. We have not received this many applications since the 1980s. The premier is not only an important event for Sveaskog but also for the area at large," says Percy Assarsson, Local Manager at Mörrums Kronolaxfiske.
The premier attracts some 200 anglers from home and abroad as well as a host of visitors who make their way to the village of Mörrum to witness this annual spectacle.
