30-year-old Dace Rozenberga left her job at Sveaskog's subsidiary Baltfor in Latvia and moved to Sweden, bringing her horses with her. She is now working as a logistician for Sveaskog in Götaland.
"I'm enjoying my work very much! And I feel very much at home in Sweden. People are self assured and calm," says Dace.
Living in Sweden is a whole new experience. Dace studied Nordic languages while at upper-secondary school in Riga 13 years ago. Her Swedish teacher had contacts in Jönköping, which gave her and four other Latvian students the opportunity to study at Erik Dahlbergsgymnasiet in Jönköping for a term.
"I lived with a wonderful Swedish host family, which I still visit quite often."
This previous experience of Sweden caused Dace not to hesitate for a second when she was offered a job working with timber transportation in connection with the storm Per. She did this from March to December 2007. Among other things, Dace provided Sveaskog with the use of six Latvian timber trucks.
Last spring it came to her notice that Sveaskog was looking for a logistician for the Götaland market area, and she became immediately interested. Dace started work here as a logistician in June, placed at the office in Vimmerby.
She had worked with transportation before at Baltfor. Now she works with the entire logistics aspect of the transportation.
"My work involves transportation to the pulp and saw mill customers and is a lot of responsibility. I wanted to try something new and this is certainly an exciting challenge. Speaking Swedish again is also somewhat of a challenge. I haven't spoken it for three years." says Dace.
She is pleased about things in Vimmerby, and with the calmer lifestyle than she had in Riga. On the other hand, she says that life at work is hectic, but fun.
"I really like my job! Things are happening all the time; it's never boring. There is plenty to do and good opportunity to develop. In the long term, I will be able to take more responsibility for customer contact, verifying deliveries etc. Customer relations is an important, developing and fun part of my work."
During her time in Sweden, Dace has made many new friends mainly in connection with her work. And she is now getting to know her neighbours as well.
"It's not easy finding time for everything; I want to get into my work as soon as possible so I'm not at home that much. What's more, I brought my horses over from Latvia, and I have to care for them in the evenings. But I don't regret that for a second. They help me to feel even more at home here.
