Riisitunturi National Park is the Trekking Destination of the Year 2010. The Riisitunturi National Park, one of the southernmost proper fell areas in Finland, has been voted Trekking Destination of the Year 2010. The national park, which is maintained by Metsähallitus, won the public vote, receiving more than a quarter of the votes given.
The Trekking Destination of the Year competition was held for the sixth time. The win by the Riisitunturi National Park was a wonderful reward for the work done in developing the area. The objective of the competition is to raise the visibility of Finnish outdoor destinations and to help nature lovers find new hiking routes.
The area has been developed by Metsähallitus during the years 2007–2009, and the work is still continuing. Four new day trails take the hiker into spectacular fell and hill landscapes dominated by spruce forests and impressive hanging bogs.
