Royal hunt on Sveaskog land

News | 11/9/2010

This year, as is tradition, Sveaskog hosted two royal hunts, 22 October and 4 November.

The first of these took place on Sveaskog land at Kloten in Bergslagen. 55 beaters drove just over 60 moose in front of them, 18 of which were felled by the hunting team. But the king himself did not take a trophy this time.

The beautiful autumn landscape set the perfect scene for one of Sweden's most renowned hunts - the Royal moose hunt. Just under 20 hunters, with the king and Prince Philip taking the lead, hunted in a total of five battues.

The county governor, Maria Norrfalk took home the most trophies. She had taken three moose by the end of the day and was very pleased with herself during lunch at Pankoviken. The event was arranged by Sveaskog's representatives, hunt leader Jimmy Pettersson and vice hunt leader Gerard Niebl.

A record degree of interest was shown by the media this year. There was even a German TV team in attendance. Much attention was paid to Olle Westling, Prince Daniel's father.

On 4 November the king hunted with a smaller group at Halle Hunneberg; this time with flushing dogs.
