Finnish company Morven recently signed a deal to lease the industrial site at Seskarö from Sveaskog. Morven will use the site to produce materials for its glued joints manufacturing business in Finland. The company anticipates employing about 20 people at the Seskarö site.
“We have been looking for a place in which to supplement supplies to our glued joint production facility in Finland for some time. We’re delighted to have now found the perfect solution in Seskarö,” says Jaakko Kilpeläinen, MD of Morven.
Morven plans to gradually employ staff at the Seskarö site. It is estimated that 20 people will be taken on during the first year. Activities will begin in June, focusing on the drying and sorting of timber and conducting some modernisation work on the facility. The company plans to start production in earnest during the autumn.
“For Sveaskog’s part, it has been important to find an industrial player that will guarantee future operations at Seskarö,” says Gunnar Olofsson, CEO of Sveaskog. “We’re particularly pleased with this solution as Morven complements other wood industry players in the Norrbotten area by requiring a slightly different range of products.”
Morven’s core activities are focused on supplying materials for glued joint production. This means that the company can use significantly smaller dimensions and shorter trunks than those traditionally demanded by sawmills.
Finnish company Morven Ltd Oy was formed in 2007 and owns properties and industrial facilities. It has a significant shareholding in Finnish company Arktos Group Ltd Oy and also operates a number of sawmills, including one in Peuravuono, Finland.
The lease agreement runs up to and including June 2013, with the option to extend the agreement one year at a time.
